Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Nest Staff

Jon-Luc Furlong - Lead Teacher

George Parkes – Senior Learning Mentor

Hi, my name is Mrs George Parkes and I have worked at Christ Church and St Peter’s school for 18 years. During this time I worked as a Teaching Assistant and moved to work in the Inclusion Team as an Assistant Learning Mentor, before working as a Learning Mentor with children throughout the whole school. Additionally, I ran the Nurture group in which I was able to engage with the children to improve their social skills. During this time, I realised I had a natural flare working alongside children with specific social, emotional and mental needs.

I started as the Senior Learning Mentor in the Nest in 2019 working alongside children with SEMH needs. I am the DSL for the children in the Nest, as well as for the mainstream. I have had specific training to ensure that I am up to date with the current guidance, and make sure all children in my care are safe. I have received relevant training to be able to carry out my role in the Nest. Training such as; Team Teach, Emotion Coaching, Behaviour training, in house THRIVE Approach training, Know me to Teach me, to name a few. During this role, I liaise and work with parents/careers, and other outside agencies alongside the Lead Teacher to meet the children’s social and emotional needs.

Stacy Ward – Learning Mentor

Hi, my name is Mrs Stacy Ward. I have worked in Mountsorrel School for 12 years, working as a SEN 1:1 teaching assistant within the Mainstream. Since 2019, I became a Learning Mentor in the Nest. I have enjoyed working with children who need that extra bit of support to enable them to meet their full potential.

I have attended relevant and bespoke training to allow me to meet a variety of needs within the Nest. I am fully first aid trained, with up to date Epipen training. Recently, I have acquired a comprehensive understanding and strategies to help children with additional needs, such as Autism and Diabetes. Similar to the other staff in the Nest, I have had training such as; Team Teach, Emotion Coaching, Behaviour training, in house THRIVE Approach training, Know me to Teach me, to name a few. I am also fully trained to lead Lego therapy within the Nest, which enhances the children’s social interaction skills.

Sue Fellowes – Learning Support Assistant

Hi, I am Mrs Sue Fellowes. I have worked at Christ Church and St Peter’s Mountsorrel for over 10 years, in which I was a teaching assistant in the mainstream supporting young children with additional needs to meet their full academic potential in the classroom. I have been working in the Nest since 2020 as a Learning Support Assistant.

My role is to support the children to meet their individual needs socially, emotionally and academically using the six principles of Nurture. Similar to the other staff in the Nest, I have had training such as; Team Teach, in house THRIVE training, Emotion Coaching, Behaviour Training and First Aid. This has enabled me to improve my abilities to best fulfil the children to meet their needs.

Joel Eadie – Learning Support Assistant

Georgie Evans - Learning Support Assistant

I am the Mental Health Lead for both the school and The Nest. I am ‘Team Teach’ trained and up to date on safeguarding training.

I enjoy supporting the children in the Nest to learn, socialise and interact well with their peers. My role is to support the children with their learning in a bespoke way that caters to their individual needs.
