Food Technology
Our Curriculum
Intent
Food Technology is a crucial life skill which significantly affects children’s long term health. At Christ Church & St. Peter’s C of E Primary School it is the intent of our Food Technology curriculum to apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating, instilling a love of cooking in all pupils. Throughout their time at school, we aim to give all children the opportunity to learn, apply and develop mastery of basic techniques through practical experience in our new Food Technology kitchen. In this way, they can begin to show initiative in using these skills to make their own healthy dishes. Children learn about a wider variety of ingredients through tasting and cooking foods outside their experiences including those used in other cultural traditions. This promotes respect of other cultures and makes cross curricula links. Through Food Technology and our Healthy Eating curriculum we ensure that all children develop a depth of understanding of the impact of their food choices. In planning dishes and thinking about portion size, children will develop a deeper understanding of a healthy life style and the impact of food waste.
