Aiming High and Caring for Everyone.

Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Year 3 - Kingfishers and Moorhens

We hope that you have had a fantastic Christmas break! It has been wonderful to see all of the children come back smiling and eager to tell us all about their break. We would like to share some information with you about our upcoming half-term.

In English, we are writing a description on UK landscapes. Through all this work, we will be focusing on using similes, imagery of sound and imagery of touch. We will also focus on building and improving our sentence structures, grammar and punctuation.

In Mathematics, we will be developing our understanding of Fractions. We will also be learning our new multiplication and division methods for Year 3. Our focus for times tables will be to continue to develop our knowledge of facts, focusing on our 4s and 8s but revisiting our 2s, 5s, 3s and 10s.

Our areas of learning for this half term are shown on the grid below.

Please note: P.E. is on a Tuesday and Thursday.

Children should bring PE kit in a separate, named, P.E. bag to get changed into during the day. P.E. kit should be brought into school on a Monday and taken home again on a Friday. Please provide shorts and T-shirt as well as joggers and a hoody or sweat-shirt for cold weather, as well as trainers. Please ensure that children’s P.E. kit is school appropriate (e.g. no crop tops, inappropriate slogans etc) and that earrings are taken out on P.E. days – if you are unable to take the earrings out, please provide tape for your child’s ears.

Please provide water in a bottle each day for your child to drink in the classroom.

For their homework, children should practise their reading (please aim for at least three times a week), practise their times tables and spellings. Reading books and logs should be in school every day and books will be changed on a Friday. Children will receive house points for reading three or more times a week at home.

Children can practise their spellings by logging onto ‘Ed Shed’ or ‘Spelling Shed’ and completing the assignments that have been set.

Please practise your child’s times tables as well at home. This can be done through ‘TTRockstars’.

Thank you for your continued support.
