Aiming High and Caring for Everyone.

Enabling children to flourish and succeed

EYFS - Robins and Wrens

Welcome back! We hope that you have all had a restful and enjoyable Christmas holiday.

We have happily settled back for our topic of ‘Frozen Planet’. Over this term, we will be learning about the similarities and differences between the seasons. We will be investigating the changes in state - ice and water. We will learn about animals within the Arctic and Antarctic and how they survive, comparing the environments to where we live and looking at where on the globe. We will also be learning all about the expedition of the great explorer Earnest Shackleton.

In Literacy, we will look at a variety of stories and non-fiction texts, including; Here Comes Jack Frost, Lost and Found, The Emperor’s Egg and Mr Wolves Pancakes. If you have any of these books at home, please feel free to read them with your child throughout this topic.

In our Maths sessions, we will be learning about the compositions of 6 and 7 and comparing sets. We will also be learning about mass, capacity, length, height and time. We follow Mastering Number for our maths lessons.

In our PSHE sessions, we will be thinking about special people and how to care for them. We will also be exploring how to look after our homes, the classroom and our world. We will also begin to learn how to be resilient learners.

In RE sessions, we will be learning about the importance of God to Christians and how they show that God is important to them. They will also be learning about the story of Creation.

Some key things to remember:

  • Please make sure your child is reading at home as often as possible. We will be sticking tricky word lists into their reading diaries. Please help your child to read them.

  • Send your child into school with a water bottle every day.

  • PE bags should stay in school. Our PE day is a Tuesday.

  • We have very few spare clothes in school. Your child needs a bag with spare items in that we can use.

  • Children need a warm coat, hat and gloves as we are outside every day!

Our school day is 8.40-3.15. Our classroom doors open at 8.40 and close at 8.45.

Remember to name anything and everything that comes into school!! This is very important!

Please don’t allow children to bring toys in from home as they cause a lot of upset for others and can get lost.

Tapestry – Our aim this half term is to use Tapestry more to keep you up-to-date with your child’s learning.

Reading - We will send home a phonics book or activity and a sharing book each week for you to share with your children. We will collect these in on a Thursday and send out new ones on a Friday.

Communication on the door – We’re always happy to chat but morning messages must be kept short as we begin teaching at 8:45. Longer conversations can happen after school. We ask you to kindly wait until all of the children have been safely dismissed at the end of the day if you need us.

Thank you for all of your support, we look forward to a positive half term!

Many thanks,

The EYFS Team
