Year 1 - Goldfinches and Chaffinches
Dear Parents and carers,
We can’t believe how quickly the last term has gone! The children have worked so hard over the Autumn Term and they really enjoyed making the puppets with you at the end of term. Thank you for your continued support with your child’s learning.
Our topics for the first half of the Spring term are ‘Changes in Recent Memory’, ‘Oceans and seas’ and ‘Lines’. The children will be using language of time e.g. past, present and future as well as using timelines to show changes. We will be learning about changes in food and shopping, transport and toys now and in the past. It would be really beneficial for your child to talk to you and their grandparents about what life was like when you / they were a child.
In Literacy, we will be looking at traditional tales starting with The Three Little Pigs. We will be writing our own versions of traditional tales. We will be developing our use of punctuation, _ed suffixes and use of capital letters for proper nouns.
In Mathematics, we will be looking at addition and subtraction within 20. In the last two weeks, we will focus on place value with larger numbers where we will learn how to represent, compare and order numbers up to 50.
Our areas of learning for this half term are shown on the grid below.

Our P.E. days are now Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child has a named P.E. kit in school with suitable warm clothing for outdoor P.E. Please remind your child to bring their clear reading folder into school every day and this will be collected in on Thursday mornings.
Please remember that children should have water, not juice, in their drinks bottles.
Thank you so much for all your help in supporting your child. It is very much appreciated!
