Year 1 - Goldfinches and Chaffinches

Dear Parents and carers,

Dear Parents,

We hope that you have all had a wonderful Easter! It is lovely to see everyone back after a well-deserved break. Here is some information for you about the Summer Term.

In Literacy, we will be looking at the book ‘Jasper's Beanstalk’ by Nick Butterworth and a recount. We will learn the text orally and we will be writing our own recounts. We will be focusing on writing simple sentences, using capital letters for people, places, days of the week and I.

In the second half-term we will be working on a traditional story.  We will be looking at changing adjectives by adding -er or -est as a suffix.

In Mathematics, we will be working on multiplication and division by counting in twos, fives and tens. We will be putting objects and pictures into these groups to help us to count.

In the final half-term we will be focusing on recognising, ordering and comparing numbers to 100. We will also be learning to find a half and a quarter of shapes and quantities as part of our fractions unit. In our work about ‘time’, we will be learning how to tell the time to an hour and half-hour on an analogue clock. We will also be learning to use a calendar by looking at the days of the weeks and months of the year. We will measure time in seconds, minutes and hours.
