Christ Church and St Peter’s follows the Read Write Inc. scheme to teach phonics across KS1 and into Key Stage 2 where necessary.

In EYFS and KS1 children follow a daily phonic programme to create fluent and enthusiastic readers, confident speakers and willing writers.

The Read Write Inc. Scheme teaches the children the sounds that they need in three sets. These are known as ‘Speed Sounds’.

Set 1 - m a s d t i n p g o c k u b f e l h sh r j v y w th z ch q x ng nk

Set 2 - ay ee igh ow oo oo ar or air ir ou oy

Set 3- ea oi a-e i-e o-e u-e aw are ur er ow ai oa ew ire ear ure tious tion

Each sound has a different picture and phrase to accompany it; this helps the children to remember each sound.

Curriculum Statement

 Our Curriculum

We seek to create opportunities for children to excel in a range of activities that enhance and extend the statutory National Curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to participate in residential and day trips, gifted and talented workshops, sporting events, visits from guest speakers, whole school performances, church services and extra-curricular clubs.

We ensure that our pupils have opportunities to use their Literacy and Maths skills across the curriculum.

We follow the Chris Quigley 'Essentials' which covers all aspects of the statutory National Curriculum 2014 and promotes learning fewer things in greater depth.

Your child will be working on learning objectives from their given year group – in most cases- and will be either be working at a basic level (working with support), an advancing level (with greater independence) or at a deep level (applying their understanding across a range of different subjects independently). You will have access to further details on your child’s target sheets half termly.

To see what your child is learning about this term, please see the topic planner for their year group. You can also access information about trips and experiences that we will be offering your child.

For further information about our 'Essentials Curriculum' please feel free to come and speak to us or to have a look here.
